The ICS Stacey Nicholas Office of Outreach, Access, and Inclusion (OAI) invites applications for Tutor position for its Tutoring Program. Tutors provide tutoring and mentoring to ICS undergraduate students in lower-division courses.

About OAI

The Stacey Nicholas Office of Outreach, Access and Inclusion’s (OAI) mission is to recruit, retain, and graduate talented undergraduate and graduate students from historically excluded populations who are currently underrepresented in The Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences (ICS). OAI applies an intersectional lens to the design of its programs and resources, aiming to support students who are most underrepresented in information and computer sciences. We actively work to bolster diversity, equity, and a culture of inclusive excellence among ICS students, faculty, and staff.

What you'll do (responsibilities)

We're looking for undergraduate students who enjoy teaching and mentoring fellow students. We invite students to join us in building and iterating upon OAI's Tutoring Program, with the aim of strengthening our culture of inclusive excellence within ICS.

• Tutoring — Tutors will provide supplemental instruction for the following lower-division courses:
  • ICS 31, 32, 33;
  • ICS 45C, 46
  • ICS 51, 53;
  • ICS 6B, 6D
• Workshops — Assist in the design and facilitation of workshops on technical topics: introduction to git, debugging, code review, and code optimization.
• Mentorship — Learning mentors will be trained to provide guidance on matters such as imposter syndrome, stereotypes, and balancing commitments, including school, work, and family.

Expected Commitment

• Pay Rate — $21.28/hour
• Hours — Approximately 10-15 hours per week
  • 8-10 hours will be dedicated to tutoring
  • 3-4 hours will be dedicated preparing for tutoring sessions, supplemental workshops, resources, mentoring program
• Start Date — As soon as possible

What we're looking for (qualifications)

• Enrolled undergraduate in ICS
• Ability to interact and work effectively with a wide and culturally diverse range of students, including first-generation college students
• GPA of 3.0, or preferably higher
• Completed the majority of lower-division courses, with grade of at least a "B"
